Summer 2013 drawings and paintings...

I picked up a drawing book at a garage sale this past spring and have produced a few 8x10 watercolor paintings, along with reproducing them via the kiosk machine at Walmart, which actually turned out better than I had expected... yes...sometimes I am guilty of dreaming too small...way too small.

First was the panda, which I thought was fairly easy, and I even added the bamboo in the background. For the reprint, I chose the 11x14 premium canvas at Walmart, which I really liked; made it look like an oil painting.

Then I did the toucan, which seemed surprising easy...well...until I started painting the beak. Even though a toucans beak looks rather odd, similar to half a banana stuck on its face, well...I just couldn't get past that, so that's what I tend to focus on when I look at it. For the reprint I tried the faux canvas in a 16x20, which I wouldn't do again; it's mounted on cardboard. It's worth paying a little more for the premium; real canvas mounted on wood.

During the process of painting this one, I had put my old sweetheart of a cat, Tazz, to sleep...it was time, but it was still a sad and difficult choice to make. In the background of the painting, I can see her spirit free to roam in bird paradise, so I didn't want to add anything else to it.

Then I painted a kangaroo...for Lizzy; she hops like a kangaroo on her new trampoline. The reprint I did in the premium canvas, an 11x14. I also added some text...I love Lizzy... which I inserted under the kangaroo. I forgot to capture the pic of that but will soon.
